Sounds so much like a theme from more than one of the #RabbiSmall detective book series.
A lay community trying to force a specialist leader into being something that'd supply them with more of what they're familiar with.
As opposed to being open to a specialist leading them to places they're, to varying degrees, unfamiliar with.

I'd guess that getting together to discuss a defendant would, when it became known, count in some way against the judges being able to continue as the judges on the cases.
We need a US #lawyer.
