There are increasing rumours and reports that two things are happening with the Royal Canadian Air Force.

1) that the Snowbirds may be replaced or cancelled.

2) that a decision is imminent on the F35 or split Gripen fighter fleet.

This “long shot” prediction from Esprit de Corps Canadian Military Magazine floats an interesting possibility that could happen as soon as May 19.

They suggest Minister of National Defence McGuinty will simultaneously announce:

1) The Gripen as the fighter of choice (presumably along with partnerships with SAAB).

2) The pause of the Snowbird program.

3) Replacement of the CF-114 Tutor jets with the Gripen for the revamped Snowbirds squadron.

I would approve of this plan!

CANADIAN ARMED FORCES: Grounding the Snowbirds?

YouTube
Growing up, my family made a tradition of going to the Abbotsford Air Show whenever we could. Watching the Canadian Forces Snowbirds are some of my earliest and fondest memories.

Having the opportunity to watch them practice several times per day during the last few weeks of their spring training here in Comox has been such a great experience that brought some of that childhood excitement back again. Can’t wait to have them back next year!

Safe travels to all the pilots and the support team that make this all possible and good luck with all your upcoming shows.

The Golden Age: Canada's Golden Hawks

Before the Snowbirds, the Golden Hawks ruled the skies. Formed in 1959 for the RCAF's 35th anniversary, they flew frontline F-86 Sabre jets—not trainers. Their striking gold-and-red paint scheme and daring low-level shows made them legends. Their controversial disbandment in 1964 was met with public outcry, solidifying their place as one of Canada's most revered air teams. #Canada #GoldenHawks #RCAF #Aviation 🇨🇦

Caught RCAF 442 Squadron SAR Techs out training last week on a sunny spring day!

If you look real close, you can see the SAR techs at the ramp prior to jumping.

@TheSnoopySnoop Okay! I've learned - I had my camera today in the car with me. I saw earlier in FlightRadar24 that a Herc was circling near CYLS - so I grabbed my dog and off we went. Unfortunately by the time I got there, the Herc had landed - but I took a shot of it through the fence from the far side of the airport.

The Red Knight: A Solo Spectacle

Not all of Canada's air displays were full teams. The Red Knight was a solo performer from 1958 to 1969. The pilot, always an experienced RCAF instructor, flew a T-33 Silver Star jet painted brilliant red. The Red Knight brought aerobatics to smaller towns and airshows that couldn't host a full formation team, becoming a unique and beloved part of Canada's aviation heritage. #Canada #RCAF #ColdWar #Aviation 🇨🇦

Canada's First Jet Team: The Blue Devils

The 'Blue Devils' of 410 Squadron were Canada's first jet aerobatic team. Formed in 1949, they flew the de Havilland Vampire, the RCAF's first operational jet fighter, thrilling audiences with the speed of the new jet age. Active for only three seasons, they introduced high-speed precision jet formation flying in Canada. #Canada #RCAF #Aviation #History 🇨🇦

@TheSnoopySnoop I usually see them while driving up near CYLS where they often stop over. I checked my photo library and I only have one shot of a C130. I'll have to make sure I have my camera with me more often!
