@Aissen Thank you for the #rustlang #R4L talk. I watched the video twice. Also once the talk you linked from Miguel Ojeda.
Key takeaways for me:
- Memory safety is the **least** convincing point. Ergonomics **is**.
- (Ojeda's video) gccrs is far more important for #R4L than I thought
- Rust kernel drivers look clean and very readable

@AsahiLinux It's sad to hear, but I'll accept that decision.

  • Please sent him my regards, cuz he's being missed already in the Fediverse (maybe he rejoins on a more private account, IDK...)

Let him, know he's based af and that the way @linuxfoundation handled the "Anti-#Rust - Gang" is just inexcuseable and that I wish for @torvalds et. al. to not just take notes but actual #consequences given that the reasons that made @[email protected] quit are systemic!

When someone denounces the inclusion of a subsystem, just for the argument of the fear of being an ecosystem, invalidate the merit of Linux evolving organically. Invalidate de ethos of rough consensus and working code.

I care of people caring. I write this because I care of Hector Martin. Best wishes to #Linux kernel, #R4L subsystem effort, and the #Asahi project. Best wishes to Hector Martin and to the upcoming people taking care of all these.

The story of what happened to @[email protected](link) is a story not just in Linux, it is a story I am seeing in this aging tech world.

I have seen it first hand now that I am in my field.

I have seen the sloth driven by the reactionary old developers.

I have seen how the systems they formed clamp down on progress.

Do it their way, and suffer for years.
Be radical, and they push you out and to the side.

Rust for Linux and its future is now likely a dream, and the Linux maintainership will age out, and whatever remains will be cannibalized by successor projects.

To Hector, thank you for your efforts, take rest and focus on the good you do.

@chromblitzen Looks like one of the older versions too, with the all metal grille, and the old Renault logo. Possible from 1967-1974 (there was an older version with a smaller grille that didn’t encompass the headlights).

It’s lovely!
