DMRC researchers Dr. Ruari Elkington and Dr. Tess Van Hemert examined Australian cinemagoers' engagement with local films, revealing a stark contrast with French cinema. In 2023, Australian films made up just 2% of the box office, hindered by marketing, short runs, and audience uncertainty. In 2021, local films surged to 12% due to fewer Hollywood releases, proving demand exists and highlighting the need for stronger marketing, exhibition, & policy support. #QUTResearch 📑 https://www.qut.edu.au/news/realfocus/how-much-do-we-support-australian-made-cinema-maybe-we-should-take-a-lesson-from-the-french
