Almost 270 civil society organisations, trade unions, consumer groups, farmers organisations, civil rights groups and environmental organisations representing millions of citizens, call on European Commission’s President Ursula von der Leyen to shun deregulation and prioritise the protection of people, nature, and democracy in its decision-making processes.
Campaigning organisation, The Real Facebook Oversight Board said “President Trump, Elon Musk and now Mark Zuckerberg are not champions for free expression. They are extremists who want common sense voices silenced, and conservative disinformation to flourish without correction.”
Instagram users have been sharing their concerns, joining the dots between less regulation leading to more disinformation and hate speech towards marginalised communities.
Meta is ending its fact checking program in favour of Community Notes. The official announcement says the new system of Community Notes will operate “just like on X” (formerly Twitter) - which sounds terrible. The shake up will also allow for more political content. Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, says this is a “cultural tipping point” days before Donald Trump takes office in the White House again.
