#California's notoriously docile #PublicUtilitiesCommission voted 4-0 to allow a new fixed #fee on bills for energy. State #regulators OK'd new monthly "#utility fee" up to $24 on top of already climbing residential #ElectricBills.

The fee restructuring is expected to raise bills of up to 4 million customers statewide of Pacific #Gas & #Electric, Southern California Edison and San Diego #Gas & Electric.

#PublicUtility Commissioner Darcie Houck said “This is a relatively modest charge." #PGE say the fixed #charge will supposedly reduce the per-kilowatt cost of #electricity for all customers and help subsidize greener energy production.

Gas prices have risen sharply recently across California, including the price of natural gas for home heat. Ben Christopher of CalMatters reports that some relief may be coming soon.
