for #PoetryMonday, In the Darkness, by Mary Oliver

At night the stars
throw down
their postcards of light.

Who are they
that love me
so much?

Strangers
in the darkness--
imagine!

they have seen me
and they burn
as I too

have burned, but in
the mortal way, to which
I am totally loyal.

Still, I am grateful
and faithful
to this other romance

though we will not ever know
each others' names,
we will not ever

touch.

you know it's been a rough week when #PoetryMonday doesn't happen until Thursday afternoon

BTW, my new poetry collection 'Not Enough Rage' (V. Press) launches on Monday. I'm going to be reading some poems on Zoom, with some shipmates from the press.

some days I find a little
some days I lose a lot
those moments when I'm with it
I feel an awful lot

Loneliness would become
a pulsing star within

Who's resonance is in you
as much as it's within me

That feeling corrupts
in mediums I touch

Because I am that broken child
Who wasn't allowed to express

So that covered - me bleeds out
In these happy bitter melodies

Shimmery scales flashing atop
an inky velvet sea

I cannot find the gods you serve
and I have been known to stay out all
night, searching.
