Horror As Cat Uses Pet Buttons To Tell Mom There's a 'Stranger' at Window

Sarah Baker told Newsweek that "waking up to your cat saying 'stranger outside' is never what you want to hear."

Raz hasn’t been as excited about the buttons recently, but one of my cats likes to bat at pictures on the wall to get my attention. 🙄 so I thought maybe she’d like to learn to communicate with me instead?

Cinder gives every indication of knowing what I want her to do and just not wanting to do it, but today she finally, firmly, pressed the “outside” button to ask me to open the window. #FluentPet #PetButtons

Two button presses today! Raz came into the room while I was working and pressed “ball.” Might have been an accident, but I made a big deal and we went and got her ball from the other room and played fetch!

Then later the cat was being a bored asshole again and I was demonstrating the “play” button for her, and then when I started playing with the cat, Raz hit “play” also! So I was juggling the feather stick with the cat and the ball with the dog for a few minutes. 😂 #FluentPet #PetButtons

Yesterday Raz pressed her second button! One of the cats was being an asshole in the way that makes me think she is bored, so I demonstrated “play” and then started playing with her. Then the other cat joined in. A couple minutes later Raz came in the room and hit “play!” Not sure if she intended to? Describing what we were doing? Jealous?

Anyway I abandoned the cats and made a big deal about getting her toys and playing with her, since she had asked. #FluentPet #PetButtons

Yay my dog Raz pressed her very first button today! I’d been demonstrating “outside” for her, and this morning I took her to the back door (normal schedule) and just pointed at it, and she pressed it with her nose! Even re-pressed it when it didn’t speak the first time! Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?

Here she is! Alt text: Raz, an older brown and white spaniel dog looking at the camera with a gray tabby cat (Barbossa) in the background stalking her tail. #FluentPet #PetButtons

YES it has arrived!! My kid and I set up two buttons which will hopefully interest both the dog and the cats: PLAY and BALL. We also set up OUTSIDE on a separate tile by the back door for the dog (not shown).

Our dog already knows “ball” and “outside” when we say them; it’ll just be a matter of her learning to press the buttons to communicate it to us. #FluentPet #PetButtons
