🪷 Coinciding with the 21 April anniversary of the founding of Rome, ancient Romans celebrated the #Parilia or #Palilia, the feast of the non-binary deity Pales, patron of flocks and shepherds. Pales is such an ancient deity that even the Romans were not sure whether Pales was a god or a goddess. Shepherds would sweep old straw out of pens and make small bonfires with the old straw. The shepherds would leap over the bonfires carrying spring lambs. 🪷
