Congratulations, Anwar Ibrahim!

I think this episode will be remembered for the central role played by the King as an honest broker, guiding the various players to perhaps the only solution that has some semblance of a chance at stability -- a unity government. I had to Google "unity government." A new thing for us here.

But already it's encouraging that the various parties have come to the table, although some apparently did so grudgingly. And some have shown a willingness to apologise for hurtful words.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim ended a press conference at 6pm KL time outside Malaysia’s National Palace stating that there has not been a decision regarding the 10th Prime Minister nor the formation of the government. He also clarified that he is not interim Prime Minister.

The King has expressed a desire to have an inclusive government that works to resolve people’s problems and improve the economy. He will make his announcement in due time regarding the government.

Shortly prior, he and Perikatan Nasional leader Muhyiddin Yassin had an audience with the King regarding the results of the general election and how to move forward given the status of hung parliament as no party nor coalition managed to win the majority of seats in the Federal Parliament.

The minor coalition, Barisan Nasional, had declared that they will not form an alliance with either of the major coalitions and will remain in opposition.

For Indonesian people,
Faisal Tehrani's essay sounds familiar:

During Malaysia's election campaign, PN used racial & religious sentiments to scare Muslim voters, claiming those voting for PH will go to hell, a Christian-Jewish agenda behind PH, etc. #GE15 #PRU15

Kebangkitan ekstremisme Islam pasca PRU15

BN, PN mahupun PH, sentiasa bersikap dan mengambil jalan konservatif dalam isu tertentu.

The Malaysian Insight
Mahathir and Ku Li going down in the same election has to be symbolic of something.

If PH & UMNO come to terms, both PAS and anti-UMNO rebels will remain marginalized. Mahathir’s legacy will be complete.
#GE15 | #PRU15
As a symbolic act of PH and BN cooperation, UMNO should toss Zahid first...

All Malaysian election results I've seen are categorized by coalition, not party. I find this frustrating.

Mostly, I'd like to differentiate -- at a glance -- between which PN seats went for PAS & which for PPBM.

Lumping together makes sense politically (esp. with new anti-hopping law), but it obscures the ideological and geographical reach of each component party.

A PH-BN pact isn't ideal, but makes short-term political sense:

(+)
~Control of federal & state govts
~Blocks PAS influence over lawmaking & control of ministries

(-)
~BN exists to serve race-based interests
~BN is the apotheosis of political corruption in M'sia

I though Florida politics in 2022 was a disappointment, and then Kedah happened... wow
