The owls have finally left the garden. We were thrilled to see mum and all three babies together in the same tree just a few nights ago.
Farewell baby owls I hope you live a long safe life.
Goodbye for now mummy and daddy owl, we hope to see you back in our box next spring.

I've just installed my very first self-made owl box. It is meant for the Little Owl (Athene noctua) and has a special "corridor" to keep predators out.
I just hope an owl will move in before the sparrows colonize the box.

Et viola! The eastern screech owl box is finished and installed! Come on, little screechers!
Some notes on installation:
10 to 12 ft off the ground
S to E facing, because they like to warm themselves in the entrance hole in the sunlight
Some space from other trees so they can swoop in
2-3 inches of untreated pine bedding in the box
And the perching roost so they can perch
If I get owls, I will report back!
Yay!
Set up an owl box a couple of weeks ago; being patient, it may take some time for one to move in
In the interim, woodpeckers and flickers are investigating
