I was this||close to pruning my cactus patch two weeks ago, but thankfully my health issues stopped me. On Friday night, this very large "Queen of the Night" bloom popped open. It had a pleasant smokey lemon fragrance. I just wish they bloomed more often.
Even our Mountain Cur wanted to see what all the excitement was about.

Winter inside Volunteer Park Conservatory, Seattle…a luscious Orchid Cactus flower.
Disocactus phyllanthoides is endemic to Mexico and known from the cloud forest at elevations of 1,500–1,850 m above sea level.
It has probably been in cultivation since prehistoric times, by the indigenous peoples of South America and Mesoamerica.
I hope it is still flowering in its cloud forests of origin.
