Today in 1954, 71 years ago: on Bikini Atoll (Marshall Islands), the United States detonates the 15 Mt (megaton) Bravo hydrogen bomb. By comparison, the Soviet Tsar's Bomb (the most powerful in History, from 1961) was 50 Mt, and the Little Boy (launched in 1945 on the civilian population of Hiroshima) was 0.016 Mt. Radioactive fallout contaminates the crew of the Japanese fishing trawler Lucky Dragon Five (one of whom will die six months later) and the American soldiers themselves.
