“The corrupt are stealing the election”

A colleague just wrote this about the upcoming elections in #Guatemala - let’s hope they don’t succeed.

But really, this sentence applies to more or less all recent elections. Solidarity to all mobilising against this, whether successful or not: you are all heroes. #ObiDient #Nigeria #Teal #Australia #Philippines #UK etc etc etc etc

US warns interference could undermine Guatemala election

The U.S. is deeply concerned about efforts to interfere with Guatemala's first-round presidential election result, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Sunday, a day after Guatemala's top court ordered ballots be reviewed.

This plays out with a lot of regional variation. #NigerianTwitter, for example, is huge - not just because many people in #Nigeria adore Musk (they do - huge Musk fanclub there, sadly) but also because it plays a key for connection and political mobilisation, eg the #ObiDient movement. Plus many great conversations etc. i miss it all a lot #NigerianFediverse still tiny

@davidnjoku

Just saw this FT article, less accepting than other international accounts and also pointing out that the exceptionally low voter turn out, given all those queues all day long, needs explanation. Let's see what happens in the courts.

Nigeria’s badly flawed election

News, analysis and comment from the Financial Times, the worldʼs leading global business publication

@RadicalAnthro one thing i only realised yesterday: #Edo State (the area i know best, former Benin Kingdom) was a real centre/leading force in #Obidient movement. One personal anecdote: the daughter of my old friend and research assistant, who i first met 2 weeks old, in 2003, informed me a few months ago she was now Comrade Cynthia! With a particular role and task in her Edo State chapter. All just increible organising

@RadicalAnthro agree yes, hard to know how much he can do - he does seem to have more integrity but who knows how that will develop, and also of course mammoth mammoth task given state Nigeria is in. But the #Obidient movement behind him really is incredible and i have hope that this can and will make a difference. So many truly excellent people. I don’t know very good sources just now - followed on Twitter (until Musk) Al Jazeera report was good i thought

Nigeria: Can Peter Obi’s online appeal win enough votes?

Who will win the elections and get Nigeria’s top job? Plus, Ukrainian journalists in a country under attack.

🇳🇬 🗳️The amount of bravery, planning, brilliant organisation, vigilence, ingenuity and sheer amount of labour (now detecting and preventing #rigging) Nigeria’s #youth have put into this is just awe-inspiring. Twitter played a massive role in this, esp #TwitterSpaces - i listened in to quite a few early on and again yesterday. Moe and so many others have done a brilliant job. Do watch polling station announcements here #Obidient

“If you have a picture of the results from your polling unit, you can post it as a reply under this tweet. #NigeriaElections2023 #NigeriaDecides2023”

#NigeriaDecides2023 i am hearing some cautious optimism that #PeterObi and the amazing #Obidient movement might indeed pull it off (lots of worries about #rigging attempts). If so, it is THE most incredible, seismic political shift in #Nigeria, one that matters hugely not just for 🇳🇬 but the whole 🌍. A new kind of politics, a #NewNigeria

Nigeria election 2023: what are the issues and why is this vote different?

People will go the polls on Saturday in what is seen as a potential turning point for Africa’s most populous country

Honestly- have almost completely left Twitter but last half hour complete lapse as following #NigeriaDecides2023 - so exciting! What is happening in #Nigeria is so important and amazing, everyone should follow #PeterObi #Obidient. I so hope #Labour wins
@workingclasshistory @cruiser let’s hope this 25th Feb, 2023, will go down in history as the day that #PeterObi and the #Labour party won the elections in Nigeria - making the #Obidient movement one of the most remarkable political mobilisations in history - another peole power revolution
