Something that I did in my #Defcon talk this year was give a land acknowledgement about how, for all 31 years of Defcon, it has been hosted on land stolen from the #Nuwuvi tribe (aka, the Southern #Paiutes). I haven't ever seen a land acknowledgment given at Defcon but I know that at least one other presenter did: Lodrina Cherne.

The tribe was forced from its ancestral territory in 1848 and the Las Vegas band of Southern Paiutes was not granted official recognition until 1970, 122 years after the US Army took control of the region.

I sincerely hope that I served this land well in using it to tell people how to avoid becoming crime victims.

Slides from my talk are now available from Defcon's media server.
