Sumplete: don't just work row by row. A number you cross out in a row is also removed from its column sum. Work both directions in parallel — the column target often forces what you can't see in the row.

Kakuro: always solve short runs first. A 1-cell run has exactly one possibility. A 2-cell run summing to 3 or 17 has only one solution. Short runs anchor the rest of the grid.
