Mt Warning in far norhtern NSW is the first point of the Australian mainland to be touched by the sun.

So-named by navigator James Cook in 1770, the peak is the core of an ancient shield volcano clad in rainforest.

The peak dominates the skyline. It is seen here from the town of Byron Bay, looking north.
