We used to joke about how you had to ignore the labels on Japanese micro-brews: if you want to know what it is, trying drinking it. A lot of the more recent American micro-brews have become that way, too.

This outstanding rice beer from one of my favorite breweries is light, clean, balanced, flavorful, citrus and a perfect floral nose, refreshing, easy to drink, no trace of sweetness, consistent from the first sip to last. It's one of the best rice beers I've tried, from either side of the Pacific, and a good challenger to my category favorite, Chuckanut's Asian Lager. It's everything a rice lager should be, except for one detail: it's not a lager. There's a lot of hops up front that just scream pale ale.

Never mind; I love it. πŸ™‚

I'm going to need to pick up a Hitachino Nest Red Rice and a Kawaba Pearl and do side-by-side tasting.
