EmilyWorking on my Micro 8088 and got the floppy controller done! But I forgot the 3.5" floppy uses a different power connector size (feels like a 1993 rookie mistake.) So waiting on an adapter. In the mean team, switched to my VGA board for some fun.

IT WORKS!!!! Micro 8088 booting from a XT-IDE-Lite board :) An amazing friend sent me an CF image so I can test as no FDD controller yet to boot. Video via Graphics Gremlin HDMI board.

root42The PROTON PT8010F is a clone of the more widespread Faraday FE2010A. Both are basically XTs on a chip. Just add a CPU and DRAM, ROM and a bit of glue logic and you have got an IBM PC.

Got a genuine #Intel #8088
CPU and got a clip on heatsink for the #8087 math co-processor as was baking which apparent is normal for that generation.
Also kinda cool as I got an ISA dual COM port board from 1989, set IRQ and I/O lines and it came right up. This person paid money at the time to upgrade to 16550s I see with increased FIFO ! :D
Next up:
- Figure out why keyboard isn't working
- Get a floppy disk controller soldered
Today's project; storage for the Micro8088! Hoping to try booting it soon with an actual OS 😊
FIXED IT!!!! Turns out of the 100s of pins I soldered for the ISA bus, there was a solder bridge on the backplane. Quick fix and it boots!!!!

Ok, had some time to try a couple different ISA video cards and both seem to show corrupt video. BUT I do hear the happy beeping from the board so I think it's booting? May need to reach out to forums for help.
