I was thinking about putting up a #mesthastic/#meshcore router/repeater on roof our house, but don't want to connect it to wall-power, as it should also work if that crashes.
Having never done a #solar project but in the spirit of #solarpunk, can I:
- find a old car battery
- find a old/small solarcell
- use a compact charge controller to charge the 12
- use a small buck converter to go from 12v to 5v (that the Lora needs).
So in my head this should work, but no idea about minimal thresholds. Like an old car battery is much bigger than normal li-ion cells people use for these projects, but I don't want to buy new batteries. I have a indoor place near where I want to put up the Lora node. This indoor place has room for a car battery. Especially as it would also isolate it from temperature issues in the summer&winter.
Or will this be too many thresholds not getting triggered (like the solar panel needs to be quite big to be able to slowly charge the battery, or the tiny consumption of the esp32 is not good for the car battery).
