🧠 #MeetOurMinds at MPI-M:

📹 Welcome back to part 4 of our Tuesday video abstract series featuring our scientists, produced by Latest Thinking. In today's video, you'll meet Fraser Goldsworth, a physical oceanographer who investigates the effect of eddies & boundary currents on #climate. 🌊 Fraser discusses his recent research on the impact of freshwater input on the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation #AMOC:

🧠 #MeetOurMinds at MPI-M: Moritz Günther presents his brand new paper on how heating of the land can lead to cooling in the tropical eastern Pacific. Using idealized #climate model experiments, he &his colleagues surprisingly found 3 mechanisms that explain this puzzling phenomenon: 🌧️ A northward shift of the tropical rain belt, a westward shift in convection, & an intensification of the subtropical high.

📹 Welcome to part 2 of our Tuesday video abstract series, produced by Latest Thinking, today featuring Mia Sophie Specht, a physical oceanographer in our Climate Variability Department. 🌊 In his video, Mia presents her research on tropical instability waves in the Atlantic Ocean and shows how vertical shear instabilities at their fronts vary throughout the year, using high-resolution #ICON ocean model simulations: 🔗 https://lt.org/publication-plus/what-controls-shear-instabilities-at-tropical-wave-fronts/

📹 Recently some of our scientists recorded video abstracts with Latest Thinking, & we want to share these clips with you in a short Tuesday series–starting today with Noel Gutierrez-Brizuela, a physical oceanographer who investigates how small-scale ocean processes impact global #climate.

🌊 In his video, Noel reveals the surprising origins of upwelling in the eastern tropical Pacific:
