The last #MarsWeather JSON update from #NASA was on Sol 1131, Apr 28, 2024. It's been dead ever since. The reason:

#NASA is now embarking on a significant initiative to streamline its social media presence.

This means that their public outreach program is going to get a lot worse; the previous "streamlining" under the #Biden administration, combined with budget cuts, had a negative impact on the #Mars2020 mission, leading to fewer, delayed, and less detailed posts, and to the abandonment of their #MarsWeather JSON feed, to name just a few.

So, yeah! Long live #spaceEconomy !

Fewer Feeds, More Focus: NASA's Social Media Overhaul - NASA

In today's crowded digital landscape, cutting through the noise is paramount for any organization trying to connect with its audience. Recognizing this, NASA

In the good old days of the #Mars2020 mission, #NASA hosted a web page with live weather conditions at #Perseverance's location on Mars. I used that page's JSON feed for quite some time to create and post weekly weather reports.

The image shows my last such weather report, just before #NASA turned off that public JSON feed for reasons yet unknown, but coincidental with the layoff of thousands of personnel at the dawn of so called "space economy".

@cinebox
😬 It may be during some Martian summer days and California winter nights high up in the mountains, but in general Martian summer nights are cold like hell (the heretic version of hell, where it is 0°K cold 🥶 🙃 )

Here is my last #MarsWeather report before #NASA stopped updating their JSON feed. The cyan zone is the day/night temperature fluctuation. The lower limit is, of course, nights:

@PaulHammond51

The HiRISE/USGS imagery has been imported into QGIS and since forgotten. I'm not fiddling with the rest of the imagery any more, though I used to do that earlier in this mission.

"Space economy" seems to have real impact on the way NASA engages with the public. I've spent a lot of time creating workflows with their data, e.g. for the #MarsWeather reports, LA, etc, but they're now discontinuing services while the mission is still active. That's not very encouraging.
