#Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks imaged here with RGB filters at 2024-03-11_2008UT from our #Makroskooppi observatory. The long, detailed ion tail visible here only partially of about one degree pointing to NNE, contains mainly CO+ ions which give it a bluish tint. The vast round coma consists, among other molecules, of CN and C2 gases, of which C2 fluoresce a greenish light around 517nm wavelength because of the sun's UV radiation.

#Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks now has fine details especially in its ion tail, which consists mainly of CO gas. The long tail could only fit about one third in this 40x90s animation and 15x90s stacked inverted image. Images are taken last evening 2024-03-05 starting 1935UT from our #Makroskooppi remote obsevatory at Fregenal de la Sierra, Spain. In the picture, north is on the left, east is below, the size of the image field is 0.86° x 0.58°.

Here our observation of stellar #occultation #Betelgeuse by asteroid (319) #Leona on 2023 Dec 12, observed from #Makroskooppi remote observatory in Fregenal de la Sierra, Spain. Occultation lasted about 7 seconds, which is less than predicted 11.6 seconds in central path. Our observatory's position was a bit north of central occultation path at N 38⁰ 13′ 10.89″ – W 6⁰ 37′ 54.32″ – 560m.
