Aaaah, still thinking about Murong Yao and Chilong!!!

Murong Yao self-sacrificingly cutting off his own arm to deflect attention from Chilong and the rest of the women, with rather realistic blood and grimacing for a cdrama, forever removing his ability to do the dancing he’d built his life on… Chilong discovering him and having an emotional breakdown along with him… and then both of them realising the creepy head guard was watching them, having taken their restrained sounds of pain and grief for sex noises… Murong Yao then slashing the guard to death despite having just removed his own left arm! Argh!!!

1) Classic Li Lianhua; if anyone ever asks him for his ID, he should just hand them a printout of this image.

2) Nothing gets past Fang Duobing.

3) Lu Jianchi (the alcoholic martial artist) makes a personal resolution.

4) A shattering judgement.

Negative aspects of course include the non-Han-ethnicity-controlling-snakes trope, plus the fact that we’re well into the plot line about a secret conspiracy among descendants of the Nanyue kingdom.

Edit because I remembered the other thing that bothered me: Fang Duobing repeatedly punching the bad guy at the end of the episode, played for laughs. You could so easily have not put that in!!!

I cried at Zhaoling realising that the other women had been working in secret to change their own fate, rather than accepting it as she’d thought, and that they’d been protecting her the whole time.

#MLCWatchParty episodes 23-24:

The Girls’ Manor case was generally fun—there is nothing I like more than a locked room mystery with an odd collection of jianghu weirdos as suspects, and this group were fantastically weird—not to mention the Zhaoling & Xiaobao Show, two kittens constantly trying to sit on each other’s heads. I liked that Murong Yao turned out to be a good guy! I’d been rooting for him… mostly because his actor was cute, idk.

A-Fei flying around the mountaintops and being ordered around by Li Lianhua and Fang Duobing was very enjoyable. I can’t believe Fang Duobing thought that dropping the big secret (that amnesiac A-Fei had been a ‘supervillain’ the whole world feared) so soon would be just fine and leas to no consequences at all. I am shaking my head at him together with Li Lianhua.

#MLCWatchParty episodes 23-24:

I’m disappointed that I couldn’t make these episodes play on the big tv in my hotel room, but at least I discovered that the iQiyi app natively lets you collage screenshots and dialogue. Netflix needs to catch up!

(These are just examples from my initial playing around.)

#MLCWatchParty I thought I had a thread for this, but I can’t find it now? Anyway! Today I have finished episodes 16 and 17, and am watching episode 18.

I feel very sorry for Xiao Zijin, having just got married only for his wife to be hung up on the dead ex whose she’d finally let go of like a week ago. :(

@MarthaCrimson yes! We just completed the #MLCWatchParty on here and had a great time.

Here's my thread (started on my previous server, but continued here)

#MLCWatchParty I am caught up with the first two episodes of the #cdrama #MysteriousLotusCasebook! Li Lianhua is so great. Deadpan snark, too smart for you, world weary, and a secret past. Plus, cute doggo Fox Spirit! And then there is his tag-along over-eager young student who Li Lianhua never asked for in the first place. Plus murder mysteries! And what is that house on a horse-drawn wagon that Li Lianhua is living in? I think this is gonna be a good time, especially as we learn more about what happened in the last 10 years since that sword battle on the ship! I had been holding out on paying for iQiYi, but watching 6 ads before the episode, which were really just two ads repeated, was too much for me.

So, there was actually an epilogue (sort of), but it was just a 5 minutes long sequence of Fang Duo Bin and Di Feisheng still looking for Li Lianhua 3 months after the end of the series. Nothing really interesting here.

There were also a few funny backstage shorts. I liked these much more (Li Lianhua with glasses
), especially the reactions of Di Feisheng's actor. He actually cried when shooting the scene where he has to kill Jiao Liqiao

Overall I enjoyed the watchalong quite a bit. I am a sucker for mystery, even though most of the explanations here involved something absurd, wuxia-style. The comedy was also gold, Li Lianhua will be forever addressed as Master of Bulshit

Now, on to find the next series to watch.
