Saw this on Reddit earlier - I can only assume that this is because it's cheaper to use a Bluetooth chip than it is to use an MFi certified DAC that uses the Lightning port to receive audio. As much as I like Apple products, I'm glad the Lightning/MFi walled garden is slowly going (although USB-C is a mess as well 😅)
