Someone contacted me via #LinkedIn regarding a local senior R&D contract role that seemed like a good match, so I asked how much it paid.
This middleman offered far less than this role is worth, and tried to justify it with something like "but we pay the tax".
The role should have been worth at least four times as much, and, for such work, I might charge as much as ten times what was offered.
So, I'd like to share:
1. Know your worth. I publish a survey of what the big players pay at < http://syncopate.us/articles/2022/e31c.shtml >.
2. I'm often called in to save companies that have tried "doing things on the cheap", much like the barber who "fixes" $8 haircuts. Companies can either hire experienced professionals at market rates to do the work right in a timely manner or later gamble that someone like me can bring them back from the brink of extinction. Those who don't like my rates for the former will certainly not like my price for the latter.
3. Middlemen who waste my time should expect to be blocked.
