St. Damien of Molokai dedicated his life to serving leprosy patients in Hawaii. As a member of a religious order, he became a missionary and in 1873 volunteered to care for the Kalaupapa leper colony. Known as the "Apostle of the Lepers," he provided both spiritual and physical care even after contracting leprosy himself, continuing his work until his death in 1889. Canonized in 2009, he symbolizes compassion and service. #SaintDamien #LeprosyAwareness #Compassion

Saint Damien of Molokai, Priest

St. Damien of Molokai volunteered to be a missionary to Molokai in Hawaii. There was a colony of people afflicted with leprosy (Hansen's disease) there. Because of fear of the disease, these people were isolated from other communities.
