Everything's Not Awesome is a fantastically mature point that the Lego Movie 2 brings up.
Everything's not awesome
Things can't be awesome all of the time
it's an unrealistic expectation
But that doesn't mean we shouldn't try
To make everything awesome
In a less idealistic kind of way
We should maybe aim for not bad
'Cause not bad, well that would be real great
In the first film, the song Everything Is Awesome changes not one bit in the slightest, but the meaning behind it changes massively over the course of the film and it's a cool thing to witness happen.
The reprisal of it as Everything's Not Awesome in the second movie is beautiful and fits the tone and message of that movie absolutely perfectly.
The Lego Movie and The Lego Movie 2 are basically just long Lego adverts.
But.
They're both a triumph of writing, animations, direction, all that jazz. They both have very strong, important, powerful stories.
And most importantly they're just a joy to watch.
