Side note: I say porn game half-jockingly. Like many date sim games, it contains pornographic pictures/3D animations (there is no option to disable them in this game, but the suicide chapter can be skipped) but most of the game is a visual novel (Renpy) with illustrated narration, a lot of conversations with potential romantic partners and other characters, and decisions, where you pick your answers / actions amongst a defined set with various degree of influence on the story.
There are some plot points I have not gotten (yet) since I only did two "routes", including something to do with homeland security and the main character's family… maybe.

But it feels like this would also genuinely be true in real life.
I remember reading (in a graphic novel, I think… I can't remember where exactly 😔) by someone who tells how she seemed to get better as she planed and set everything in place, relaxed and even looking happy as her attempt was nearing. As they say in the game, it's always a surprise for the other people.

The dating sim game trope of the white knight saving girls, bribing them with gifts for their affection, etc. is turned on its head. It is revealed in game, as the character you play realizes it, that she is actually the one trying to save you.

Only now, writing this, do I realize that the gag of her choosing whether to peek or not via the same buttons from the game's interface may be a clever reference to that.

One of the girls (Cece) dies, then the story stops, an actual (IRL) successful suicide attempt is referred to in a touching way, and then it goes back to the story "but this is just a game…" and she is kind of resurrected but the situation isn't fixed. If anything, it is worse.
And even though the way she survives is realistic (unlike your arriving just in time and grabbing her arm the very same way a second time), it still feels like her death was real. She has been brought back for the sake of the story but she has also died.

I don't know if it would have had the same impact as a different kind of game.
There is a dialog later where one of the other girls tells you that you could not have saved her, whatever choices you made, her mind was already set. That also hits hard since it is undeniable both in-game and as a meta comment on the game. No matter your choices, the girl always tries to suicide twice, stops because of you the first time, goes all the way the second attempt and miraculously barely survives.
