Geology of the Tour de France#LaDoyenne is the oldest monument, and crosses the oldest geology: old folds from the Carboniferous period, 300 million years old. In this clip, Geo-Sports presenter Douwe van Hinsbergen explains that the slopes that the riders have to climb have nothing to do with these old folds and are not mountains. They are valleys made by young rivers!
