The existing cooperation between @SNOLAB in #Canada and #LNGS in #Italy was highlighted in the Italy-Canada Roadmap:

https://www.pm.gc.ca/en/news/statements/2024/06/15/italy-canada-roadmap-enhanced-cooperation

"... through experiments such as DarkSide-20K, nEXO and LEGEND-1000. Partnerships between Italy and Canada in this sector will include technological development in the field of light detection, sensitive radioactivity detection, sophisticated artificial intelligence, and applications of such technology for the benefit of society."

Italy–Canada Roadmap for Enhanced Cooperation

The Roadmap reflects both countries’ commitment to close cooperation in tackling global challenges together and fostering sustainable prosperity, global stability, and the rule of law, including in the context of our respective G7 Presidencies for 2024 and 2025.

The #COSINUS group just moved their lab to the new building. For their very sensitive #darkmatter #experiment in the #LNGS in Italy the scientists operate a special refrigerator to reach very low temperatures. This cryostat was started a couple of days ago – and the group happily shared the news of having achieved “the coolest spot in the building” : 8,6 mK. Since this is very close to absolute zero (-273 degrees Celsius), we are glad this is a very local phenomenon ;-). Photo: Florian Reindl

Physicist #LauraMarini is run co-ordinator and site manager of the Cryogenic Underground Observatory for Rare Events (CUORE). Operated by an international collaboration, the experiment is situated deep beneath a mountain in Italy’s Abruzzo region at the #GranSassoNationalLaboratory of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics #INFN #LNGS
