In this workshop, I will introduce CloudNativePG (CNPG) features and behaviours. CloudNativePG is the Kubernetes operator that covers the full lifecycle of a highly available PostgreSQL database cluster with a primary/standby architecture, using native streaming replication. Discussed topics are: - the operator CRD - operand images and extensibility - suggested architectures - deployment (helm, manifest application...) - monitoring (Prometheus metrics) - most recent features, declarative databases, major PG version upgrade, quorum failover... After a brief presentation (about half an hour), the attendees will follow the workshop instructions. Together, we will - deploy and inspect the operator inside a Sandbox Kubernetes cluster - apply and inspect the Cluster CRD - put some data into Postgres - explore CNPG observability - test CNPG resilience, intentionally causing failover and switchover - play with CNPG features Pre-workshop Setup: Please arrive with the CNPG Playground prerequisites pre-installed on your laptop to participate in the hands-on workshop.
