👶❤️ Unique surgery at #Okhmatdyt: six surgical interventions under one anaesthesia saved an 8-month-old girl with a rare pathology

Doctors performed a complex operation on 8-month-old #Kateryna, who was born with a rare pathology — the absence of the anterior abdominal wall and the bladder wall.

The surgeons performed plastic surgery on the brain membrane and skin. It was a severe combined mine-blast injury that, unfortunately, gave little chance for survival.

Doctors carried out an angiographic examination and performed a surgery that saved two lives - #Kateryna's and her babies.

After a #Russian missile strike, pregnant #Kateryna was brought to the hospital from a maternity home in #Kamianske, #Dnipropetrovsk region with multiple injuries

She had damaged brain blood vessels and spent nearly four hours in the operating room. The doctors had to treat #Kateryna for a metal fragment, bone shards, hematoma, and brain detritus. The bleeding was stopped.

The four-legged friend got scared by the loud explosions & ran off — #Oleksii ran after him.

Some time later, #Kateryna shared that #Richy had been found. She wrote:

"People, you are incredible! Thanks to you, our little hero, the guardian angel of my #Oleksii, has been found. The post about our dog, which someone called in the comments '#Richard with a little Lionheart,' was seen by almost all of #Ukraine. Thousands of comments, millions of shares – and finally, a positive result!

Lieutenant #Kateryna rarely sees her family and has promised to give her little sister a ride, but only after the war.

She joined the #18th Separate Brigade of Army Aviation in 2023 and began flying combat missions last September. Lieutenant #Kateryna is a co-pilot and navigator on a #Mi_8.

"I never stress during the flight. All the heavy thoughts can come before or after. During the flight, my mind is clear. Once I hear on the radio that we hit the target, I know the job is done. I feel like, ‘phew, great, we completed our task'," #Kateryna said.

"In flight, I love everything."

#Kateryna is #Ukraine’s only female combat pilot who flies helicopter missions against #Russian troops.

Lieutenant #Kateryna shared that she was inspired to fly growing up on an air force base, where her father served as an officer. She was given a ride in a #Mi_8 helicopter when she was 10 and decided she wanted to become a pilot. "It was so loud and so scary, but I felt that I wanted to fly it," she said.
