The Tournament of Champions, a forerunner of this week’s @[email protected], was held on the Indonesian island of Bali for three years. Former World No.1 @[email protected] reigned supreme with back-to-back titles in 2010-11 – while getting into the spirit of traditional dress!
WTA 50 rewind 🔁
Born in Transylvania, not far from Cluj-Napoca, Virginia Ruzici’s wicked forehand helped her become a trailblazer for Romanian tennis and a fixture in the Top 10.
In 1978 she defeated her friend Mima Jausovec to capture the Roland Garros title, before they paired to win the doubles. In 1980, Ruzici was back in the Paris final once again, this time falling to Chris Evert.
Throwing it back to the last three World No.1s to have lifted the title in Luxembourg 🇱🇺
