I posted the other day about how unsatisfied I have been by Kpop releases so far this year.

I should qualify this complaint.

In the first place, I recognize that we are not far into the year and that my complaining shows how I have been spoiled by the industry's flood of releases at other times of the year.

More importantly, I should note how much I have been struck by dodree -- Just Like A Dream. It's a new sound in Kpop. Whether the song signals a new direction or is just a quirky one-off remains to be seen. Anyway, I like it!

dodree join NMIXX as a JYP girl group with strong vocals and a readiness to be musically adventurous. I am not a company stan, but JYP deserves credit for nourishing these groups as well as a range of other girl group sounds and styles: TWICE, Itzy, NiziU...Although Girlset got off on the wrong foot and have so far been overshadowed by Katseye, perhaps they will come into their own with the long term commitment a big agency can afford to offer.

As I said, I am not a company stan, and I am aware as I write this of stories about the trainee Momo attempting to quench her hunger by eating ice and similar rumours and allegations of mistreatment . Alas, JYPE is hardly unique in this respect.

Difficult to classify generically –neotrad dreamtrot pop? – but easy to choose as Kpop of the Week. I love both the vocals and the visuals.
