Imagine if child care centres were run by community based not for profit providers whose purpose was to serve their communities, not make money for shareholders. Imagine if regulations, funding, staffing levels and pay rates recognised the skilled & important nature of the work. Imagine if providing quality care to kids was a respected career.
Imagine if childcare funding had never become an uncapped resource that could be tapped by companies whose interest is to generate profit.
Imagine if the community childcare sector had been listened to, all those years go, when they warned about the consequences of changes to the funding model.
Instead we have a sector that could be a vital part of the networks that hold communities together generating huge profits for key investors, and grist for another scare campaign telling women it’s all their fault & they should really be at home with their children.
Whose interests are served here? Follow the politics. Follow the money.
