Hello, old friend πŸ₯°πŸ¦

(This is a species of Enterobacter that degrades a wood preservative called IPBC. I isolated it myself, and it was the main thing I did my PhD on. It’s been sat in glycerol at -80Β°C for most of the last 20 years. I need it for a practical this week, so revived a bit on Tuesday. The smell takes me right back - it’s not exactly pleasant, but far nicer than E. coli!)

(My historical context - I used to work on the biodegradation of 'newer' [at the time] wood preservatives, specifically https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iodopropynyl_butylcarbamate. This was part of a project seeing whether these wood preservatives were easier to degrade than the PCP they were starting to replace. Spoilers - they were, almost laughably so)
