”Pohjanmeren pohjassa makaa noin 10 000 hylkyä, joista monet ovat sotalaivoja 1900-luvun maailmansodista. Ne ovat selvä uhka ihmishengelle ja ympäristölle, ja Eurooppa on vasta alkanut kohdata sen. Korroosiosta vapautuu myrkyllisiä aineita, jotka vahingoittavat meren elämää, ja räjähtämättömät ammukset ovat yhä suurempi uhka.”

Around 10,000 wrecks lie at the bottom of the North Sea, many of them warships from the twentieth century’s world wars. They represent a clear danger to human life and the environment that Europe is only beginning to face up to. Corrosion releases poisonous substances which harms marine life and unexploded munition poses an ever-increasing threat.
