A conversation on bsky about the dire #jDrama #HatsukoiDogs reminded me of the danger of exoticising the foreign. I described the Drama as tutaekuri , which is the actual name of a river near here. Being in a language foreign to many does not magically make the name beautiful, although it is beautifully apt to describe my view of a crappy Drama about dogs. My rusty French says it would translate to "merde de chien" 😀

The #jDrama version of #MarryMyHusband was an example of just how awesome a JPN-KOR co-production can be. After one episode #HatsukoiDogs is feeling like its exact antithesis. Everything about it so far screams #kDrama in the worst possible ways. I'll give 1 more, two tops and then even with the sublime Ms Kiyohara on board, I'll be jumping ship.

When I saw Kindergarten kismet in #jDrama #HatsukoiDogs I was surprised, as it's not a super common trope in #jDrama romances, at least not the ones I've seen. Then I remembered this is a Studio Dragon co-production and #kDrama loves the trope almost as much as it loves serial killer romcoms🙄🤬🤮 This VILE trope needs die a thousand deaths and be burned with fire after being shot with a silver bullet and impaled on a stake. If if IS Kindergarten Kismet, it's sayonnara time
