HRI researchers love personalizing robot behavior. But should robot design or behavior be personalized to individuals on the basis of identity characteristics like race, gender, or culture?

In my new paper, "The Eye of the Robot Beholder" (accepted to alt.HRI at @hri #hri2023 !) I argue that whole ROBOTICISTS need to avoid colorblindness, ROBOTS should NOT be representing, recognizing, or reasoning about (even talking about!) identity characteristics like race.
