Houston ISD’s state-appointed board unanimously approves $2.1 billion budget

The budget, which is 2.5% smaller than the 2024-25 school year budget, includes boosts to several departments and programs, such as $5 million toward prekindergarten expansion and $13.7 million for special education teachers and teaching assistants.

HISD’s board of managers last week approved a budget amendment of nearly $125.5 million at the request of Miles, who said about $57 million of that total is local property tax revenue being sent to the state. Texas has a revenue-sharing system for public schools and determines their funding based on average daily attendance.
