Clarke Reynolds embosses braille dots onto paper and other materials to create striking visual and tactile artworks.

Artist Clarke Reynolds is holding a solo exhibition, “5 Degrees of Vision,” at the Grove Gallery in New Cavendish Street, Fitzrovia, starting this month.

Reynolds is known for his use of braille as an artistic medium, embossing dots onto paper and other materials to create striking visual and textural artworks.

Born in 1981 in Portsmouth with limited sight in his right eye, he was later diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa, an incurable eye condition that eventually led to his loss of vision.

“As a blind artist, I have a very different relationship with visual perception that informs my work in interesting ways,” says Reynolds.

“I aim to create art that can be appreciated by all, regardless of one’s ability to see. My braille embossing is a bridge between the visual and the tactile, allowing anyone to have an enriching experience of my art through touch or sight or both.”

Five Degrees of Vision, by Clarke Reynolds, is at the Grove Gallery, 156 New Cavendish Street, London W1W 6YW until 15 March 2024. Admission free.
