Die sechs bis zehn Eier, die jede Gans legt, sind zunächst schneeweiß und verfärben sich während der vierwöchigen Brutzeit durch das Gefiederfett oftmals bräunlich. Die Gössel, wie die Jungvögel genannt werden, schlüpfen fast zeitgleich. So kann die Familie das Nest gemeinsam in Richtung Wasser verlassen.
