Another day, another blackout. Surviving under colonialism is the only extreme sport I practice.

PS: I will never ever be convinced that privatization works.

Apparently the whole metro/north part of the island is without power. #PuertoRico #GraciasLUMA

Edit: When power here in the island was under public workers purview the aging infrastructure would give out under really bad weather conditions.

Now that it has been privatized power in the island will go out like this even on a relatively benign weather day like today. Call it colonialism, call it privatization, I'm not an expert, but I can tell that it does NOT work well.

Two blackouts so far today.

No one. NO ONE can ever convince me privatization works.

Battery powered drill ran out of juice. Began charging it but then the electricity went out. The joys of private companies managing essential services. #GraciasLUMA

Another TV lost to #GraciasLUMA, even tough it was hooked up to a surge suppressor.

Anything that isn't connected to a battery backup, that can deal with both surge AND brown outs, is in danger of getting fried. And many appliances have indeed done so.

We have already invested thousands as we believed this old house's wiring was at fault; and because we plan to add solar cells down the road.

For me, the ongoing privatization of #PuertoRico 's power grid has only been negative.

The only reliable thing about the recently privatized power company in #PuertoRico is that it is utterly unreliable.

It is increasingly unlikely (unless you're rich) that you can have reliable low cost energy to do anything in this island.

Meanwhile, record temperatures threaten the lives of those most vulnerable.
