From a #cyberwarfare perspective, knowing the country of origin could be determining. For both protection and remediation. A #Governative service using an IP address of a different country can be a real deal. In EU, for example, it could be a #GDPR violation.
In a #corporate data protection plan, knowing the country of origin of a connection may reduce the surface area of attack for an exposed service. If I am aware the corporate agents work only within certain countries, I will geofence the #VPN accesses only to those.
In an #incident #response scenario like mine, it provides vital insights on whether the incident did occur or not.
I don't expect to be able to get to the exact location, but ISP and CSPs should be an example on how to do things, not the opposite.
