#MangaMonday 37 “GOGOGOGO-GO-GHOST!” by Miyako Hiruzuka
Ushiro Akechi is a 26 year old office worker. Once employed at a top-flight company, she left after an office affair went wrong and now temps at a toxic third rate company.
After accidentally overdosing on stomach meds and beer, she has a near death experience and meets her (rather flamboyant) guardian spirit. Ushiro is ready to move on, but the spirit offers to curse her ex if she’ll keep living. She agrees, but first there’s some more immediate aggravations to deal with.
There follows a fun supernatural buddy romp through annoyances with Japanese culture, some of which (e.g., the upstairs neighbor with extremely long hanging plants) are oddly specific. Ushiro and Masako, her guardian spirit, are great characters and you can’t help but root for them even if you know that avenging grudges is probably not the best course of action.
