Busy week and too many social platforms, but hoo boy did I ever have a podcast chat on the #GlobalGael this week!
Nic Keaney is an amazing journalist and part-time genius, and she joined me to talk about her amazing career at Sky News, ITV and Twitter (before Musk burned it to the ground) - catch it here:

The Global Gael - Chasing The Scoop - Journalism, Data & Social Media With Nic Keaney

Listen to this episode from Our Man In Stockholm on Spotify. An internship when she was at Warwick University taught Nic Keaney one valuable lesson - no matter how much money it paid, she didn't want an "ordinary" job, so she went into journalism instead. Her readiness to go anywhere in the world at a moment's notice and her ability to come back with the story no matter what saw her quickly rise to the top of the profession. A pivot to the worlds of tech and data followed and she ended up at the cutting edge of Twitter's attempt to keep the world connected in real time, all while dealing with misinformation, disinformation and "fake news". Elon Musk's subsequent gutting of the company saw her depart but she had no shortage of suitors and she is now managing editor of PinkNews, the world's largest news outlet for the LGBTQ+ community. In a wide-ranging conversations, she joins the #GlobalGael to talk about her career, covering everything from trauma and innovation to how we as journalists and people often define ourselves through our work.

For the uninitiated, I make podcasts for the Irish community in Sweden & globally - the #GlobalGael podcast that came out this morning featured a chat with a lad I went to school with who is now a journalist in Australia, Andrew McGarry - fascinating story.

The Global Gael - Murders, Match Reports, Murdoch & Me - Andrew McGarry In Australia

Listen to this episode from Our Man In Stockholm on Spotify. Andrew McGarry first left Longford for Dublin, and then Ireland for Australia as his mother's career in journalism took them to the other side of the world, and despite her protestations he followed her into the trade, He has spent three decades working in Australian media, starting at the lowest level and working himself up to the heights of sport and a live Eurovision blog that is one of the high points of the media calendar there. He joined me to talk about his career, the Women's World Cup there and the mental toll of covering Australia's most notorious serial killings.

On this week's #globalgael I spole to Rodney Walshe about his move from Dublin to New Zealand and how he became Ireland's foresmost citizen there. Have a listen, and feel free to share. :)

The Global Gael - Rodney's New Zealand Odyssey

Listen to this episode from Our Man In Stockholm on Spotify. When Rodney Walshe and his mother took the plunge and moved to New Zealand many decades ago, there were no airport lounges - instead it was a month-long boat trip and a new life in a new country with little chance of going back. Since then he has become what the Department Of Foreign Affairs have described as "the most recognised and respected Irish citizen in New Zealand", and this week he joins the Global Gael to tell his amazing story.

If you know of any Irish businesses or books that deliver to the Irish abroad and are looking for a shout-out for Christmas, HMU. Happy to mention them on upcoming #IrishInSweden and #GlobalGael podcasts.
Started the #GlobalGael podcast a few weeks ago, and already the stories I've heard from guests have been amazing.
Trying hard to get women to talk to me (story of my life!), so if you know of any of Irish heritage abroad with great stories to tell, please put us in touch!
I do two weekly podcasts, one for the Swedish-Irish community and one for the #IrishAbroad that might be of interest - feel free to listen, like, subscribe and support. or indeed ignore. =)

Irish In Sweden - Rovers In Stockholm & Rugby Ref Cormac

Listen to this episode from Our Man In Stockholm on Spotify. This week we go behind the scenes as Shamrock Rovers came to town to  play Djurgårdens IF. Rovers fanatic Graham Merrigan told me what it was  like to visit Stockholm as a wheelchair user and then we headed west to  Gothenburg to talk to Cormac O'Brien about life as a rugby referee in Sweden's second city.

Are there any Irish abroad among my followers here on Mastodon? Always looking for guests for the #GlobalGael podcast so please hit me up if you have a story to tell.
The timing of this #IrishTwitter #TwitterMigration to Mastodon isn't the worst. I've been trying to implement a more relaxed tone in how I communicate. Not sure it always works, but you can only try.
It's something I'm also trying on my podcasts - if you haven't heard it yet, check out the #GlobalGael, which I've launched for the Irish abroad.
