I argued a while ago how we can use (hyper)local storage in batteries to have autarky for electricity in neighbourhoods/villages with defined connection points to The Grid at a single place so you can run your own little grid under your local control. I guess I will work on that a bit more and share some rough thoughts as blog post or on a landing page.

Seems my idea of a decentralised grid for electricity is not that outlandish ;)

"I think they will turn our grid upside down from something that is managed top-down to something that is mostly decentralized and bottom up. You will use batteries to make the electricity in your home dependable and cheaper, your neighborhood will use batteries to share local electricity"

Batteries: how cheap can they get?

How dirt cheap batteries will completely transform our electricity grid, paving the way for solar and wind and replacing grid reinforcements with grid buffers.

And now I am stuck again in the soundtrack of Tron Legacy by Daft punk. #GetRidOfTheGrid #GoodNight

@jwildeboer That is actually rather fantastic! Now all we need to do is decide what decentralization means ;)

We built centralised infrastructure for many years under the control of the people by making it publicly owned infrastructure. Think rail networks. Water. Electricity. Roads. Then we let capitalism run rampant through a concept called privatisation. With #OpenSource and #OpenStandards we can go back to making infrastructure public. On a global level. To solve global problems. Through decentralisation. #GetRidOfTheGrid
OK. I'm a bit tipsy. But I just came up with a universal slogan. The Fediverse. Solar power for domestic use. Decentralise everything. #GetRidOfTheGrid
