S AufrechtAfter Pablo Escobar's death, authorities left his four hippos on his abandoned estate in Puerto Triunfo. The 16 hippos are feral and occupy nearby lakes. Authorities culled one of the 28 hippos. At least 40 hippos live on the estate and another 30 in the nearby lakes. The 91 hippos have been declared an invasive species in Colombia. Scientists have proposed euthanizing the 100+ hippos. The Colombian government has sterilized 11 of the 166 hippos.
