Happy memorial birthday #StarTrek 's "other Gene," Gene L. Coon! It’s a blessing to have first-hand awareness from Ande Richardson Kindryd, his #TOS assistant/prótegé, on #Portal47, #TheTrekFiles, and live on stage at #STLV and #STSF. #StarTrek #drtrek #trekland #genecoon #genelcoon

Bread and Circuses, written by #GeneRoddenberry and #GeneLCoon.

1️⃣ When I think of #ClassicStarTrek this is the kind of episode that springs to mind. One with a culture and development that parallels Earth in some way.

2️⃣ Great villains in this one. Merik and Claudius are terrific characters. Merik gets a strong arc. As does Flavius. Worth noting that the villains win in this one, or at least Claudius and his society will continue as before. For now.

#StarTrek 28 (1967) - 10/10
Profound.

1️⃣ Written by #GeneLCoon, with #JohnColicos as the Klingon leader.

2️⃣ It’s a remarkable script. For most of the runtime, you have to admire the Klingons almost as much as the Federation. But, by the end, you see both of them in a less favourable light.

3️⃣ The foreshadowing surrounding the planet’s native population adds a constant sense of mystery/menace, even though our actual focus is on our heroes predicament and their enemies.
